nwsl wk16 recap

draws dominate week 16 with only two teams walking away with full points from the weekend. even with big names and stakes, the table tightens. but we did have some pretty crazy things take place. lets get into it…

Alyssa Naeher scoring her first nwsl goal in her 200th league appearance

  • Final: Spirit 2-2 Racing

The spriit were saved in stoppage time (90 +9) by forward Rosemonde Kouassi after an own goal earlier in the game.

Racing continues to relive the nightmare of losing the lead after holding it down for majority of minutes played. As midfielder Flint put it, “We just need to learn how to close out games.

  • Final: Royals 0-0 ACFC

Coming into this game we had the excitement surrounding Cloé Lacasse the Canadian superstar being back for the royals and a Aussie Alanna Kennedy goal for angel city. But let’s just say …

none of that ✨sparkle✨ was on display this past friday. Hints the no goals.

  • Final: Pride 0-0 KC

The Current have Golden Boot leader Temwa Chawinga primed to shine, Debinha back, and Ally Sentnor …the stage was set for a fireworks display.

the pride of course has Marta and the likes of one of our favs, Carson Pickett.

and what did we get? goose eggs. AGAIN. Continuing the wk16 theme.

  • Final: Courage 1-1 Thorns

Okay we did have some goal scoring here, finally.

It was a high-stakes clash between the most historically successful teams in NWSL; both packed offensive talent and playoff implications.

Goals from Moultrie and Lussi rounded out the scoresheet at even.

  • Final: Bay 1-2 Wave

Winner Winner someone finally took the dinner!!! The San Diego Wave was one of two teams that took away full points this weekend.

The regional rivalry rung victorious for the wave proving Caroline Conti’s goal for the bay was not enough.

The plot thickens between the California squads … and we like it.

  • Final: gotham 1-2 Dash

We’ve said it before and we will say it again … We see you Houston!!!

Even if it did take an Emily sonnet (Gotham) own goal to get the party started, we know the Alozie goal mixed with last week’s momentum/your wk16 lockdown defending got the job done.

we were surprised the bats let this one slip.

  • Final: Reign 3-3 Chi Stars

    Alyssa. Naeher. Scored. A. GOAL.

    Repeat.

    Alyssa. Naeher. Scored. A. GOAL.

This game was everything but boring. Monday night footy is chaos in it’s own right, but the Reign and Stars took it to a wholeeee new level with this one.

6 Different Goalscares!! (Fishlock, huitema, Adames, Ludmila, Biegalski, and Naeher). WHAT A GAME … but another draw. What can ya do?

Here is hoping week 17 has a few more goals, a few more wins, and maybe even a few more surprise goals from who we least expect.

That’s how it played out.
