Anotha one ! Gotham back on top

For the second time in three years, gotham fc has taken home the nwsl championship title.
The 2025 NWSL Championship featured a showdown between the 2023 champions, Gotham FC, and two-time runners-up, Washington Spirit. If a triple “revenge tour” wasn’t enough to heighten the anticipation, the challenge was compounded by Gotham entering the match for the second time as the lowest-seeded team in the playoffs.
For Washington Spirit, the pressure was on. Having fallen short at this very stage two years in a row, they had a point to prove … a point that was entirely within reach. The Spirit roster featured five players with five or more goal contributions, along with the likes of Croix Bethune, who missed last season’s playoffs due to injury. Adding to the firepower was none other than the temporarily blue-haired Trinity Rodman, ready to gas up the spirit even further.
The match stayed scoreless for the majority of the game. Gotham fans waited in anticipation for something magical, while Spirit supporters tried to ignore the nagging stat in the back of their minds: their team had never won a match after conceding first. Tensions were high, and the stakes even higher.
But in the 80th minute, that stalemate finally ended.
We have two words for you:
Rose. Lavelle.
After returning in the later matches of the 2025 season from ankle surgery, Rose Lavelle not only reestablished herself as a consistent goal scorer for Gotham but made sure she would be the one to secure her team the NWSL title. Scoring with her left foot, she led the Bats to victory and was named the 2025 NWSL Championship MVP.
A tough pill to swallow for the Spirit, now three-time runners-up. Will victory ever come… or will the ghosts of past defeats continue to haunt the Spirit and their faithful back at rowdy audi?
Congratulations to gotham fc and all the bats who support. to the spirit, we know you have what it takes to bring it all the way back to the championship again next season. will it finally be the year they take it home?
